John Logie Baird
John Logie Baird (Helensburgh, Reino Unido, 1888-Bexhill-on-Sea, id., 1946), físico británico. Estudió ingeniería eléctrica en el Real Colegio Técnico y fue uno de los pioneros de la televisión. En 1922 investigó la posibilidad de transmitir imágenes a distancia y en 1926 realizó en Londres la primera demostración pública de su sistema. En 1928 consiguió transmitir imágenes de Londres a Nueva York. Al año siguiente, su sistema de 240 líneas de barrido mecánico fue adoptado de manera experimental por la British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), hasta que fue sustituido por el sistema de 405 líneas de barrido electrónico desarrollado por las industrias Marconi-EMI. Baird continuó sus investigaciones, y consiguió poner a punto diversos procedimientos para transmitir por televisión imágenes en color y estereoscópicas.
